Why Our Prices Are Changing — And What Stays the Same.

Since 2012, SaltSpring Kitchen Co. has grown from a farmers’ market table to a small but mighty team making bold, gourmet condiments on Salt Spring Island. Every jar we make is a celebration of flavour, creativity, and the community we call home.

Starting July 15, 2025, our prices will be increasing slightly. We wanted to take a moment to explain why and to reaffirm everything that’s staying the same.

Why Our Prices Are Changing — And What Stays the Same.

Slow, Sustainable Growth — On Purpose

We’ve always taken the long road, choosing thoughtful, steady growth over shortcuts or mass production. All our recipes are still prepared and cooked in small batches, with each jar and bottle filled and labelled by our team, right here on the island. Our approach is different by design: we experiment with unique flavour combinations that push the boundaries of what a condiment can be. Whether it’s called a jam, chutney, or spread matters less to us than how it tastes on your cheese board, tucked into a sandwich, or stirred into a sauce.

What’s Behind the Price Change?

It’s no secret that the cost of ingredients and materials has risen sharply across the board. Since our last price adjustment in 2021, we’ve seen major increases in essentials like sugar (+43%), glass jars (+36%), and rhubarb (+149%). We’ve held our prices steady for as long as we could because we know affordability matters, especially for our direct customers and the independent retailers and specialty shops we’re proud to partner with.

This modest price increase (averaging 8%) enables us to continue producing our products the way we believe in: with high-quality ingredients in small batches by a genuine team of people who live and work in our rural Gulf Island community.

New Prices and Our Promotions

While retailers’ prices may vary, in our online shop, prices for our jars will increase by $1, and collections will rise by $5. The Hot Sauce Collection will increase by $2, but the price of hot sauce bottles will remain at the current rate of $12. The best way to buy our hot sauces is still to buy the collection and save $4. If you’re looking for a way to save, joining our email club is a great way to do so. The Scoop is what we call it, and it’s the only place we share discount codes. Our Black Friday sale is the largest of the year, and we also offer several other promotions throughout the year.

Supporting People, Not Just Products

We’re a living wage employer and a proud supporter of local jobs — not just on our team but through the hundreds of vendors, suppliers, and retail partners we work with across Canada. Many of our partners are small, woman-owned businesses just like us, and we’re committed to helping all of us thrive together.

Good work should make room for good living. That’s why we’re building a company where our team can have balance, time off, and the joy of living in a beautiful, remote place without having to leave it to find meaningful work.

Not the Cheapest, Never Boring

We’ve never tried to be the lowest-price condiment on the shelf. Instead, we focus on delivering bold, creative, conversation-starting flavours that elevate everyday meals and entertaining moments. We know it’s a luxury to stock your pantry with gourmet preserves — just like it’s a luxury to gather with friends and family around a table.

When you choose SaltSpring Kitchen Co., you’re supporting thoughtful food, creative people, and a company that puts people and place first.

Thanks for being part of our story — and for making room at your table for ours.
